Vimy Ridge Students Present: Remembrance Day 2011

Students from the Vimy Ridge Memorial Trip are organizing Remembrance Day activities for the week.  Monday and Tuesday will feature readings over the PA.  Wednesday’s activities will include a signing of the City of Prince Rupert Flag that will be taken to Vimy Ridge in April, a “Speaker’s Corner” booth where students can express on video what Remembrance Day means to them, and a special video ceremony which includes all students and staff at approximately 11:00am on Wednesday.   In order to make this video very effective, we are asking all students and staff to wear Red in commemoration of the event.

NWCC Open House – November 23, 2011

As in past years, CHSS students are given the opportunity to experience being a student at NWCC.  This activity takes students to the Prince Rupert NWCC campus and introduces them to many of the instructors and courses available.   This year, 26 NWCC faculty members are offering 20 workshops to our Grade 10’s and 11’s and hopefully planting the seeds for future career and education opportunities.  This activity is specifically planned to support the Planning 10 and Graduation Transitions curriculums.

Given the large number of students in each of Grade 10 and 11, the day has been divided between the two grades.   The Grade 10’s will attend in the morning and will check in for attendance at NWCC between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m.  The first workshop begins at 9 a.m.   They will be dismissed from NWCC at 11:20 and will be expected to be back to CHSS for their afternoon classes.

The Grade 11’s will attend regular classes in the morning at CHSS and are expected to check in for attendance at NWCC between 12:20 and 12:35.  The first session of the afternoon begins at 12:40.  Students will be dismissed from NWCC at 3 p.m.

There may be some Grade 12’s who are very interested in this event and they will be given the option of attending, and must register with their counsellor of record.

On line registration for the event will start on Friday, November 4, and most students will have the opportunity to do so during school time.  Lists of the sessions offered and registration instructions are provided as PDFs below, as students can register from home computers if they wish.  If you have any further questions, please contact the school and speak to one of our counsellors.

Grade Assemblies

Assembly

On Wednesday, September 14th, the newly amalgamated classes of CHSS had their first Grade Assemblies.  Administrators talked to students about ways in which they could contribute to their personal success, as well as create a positive learning environment for all students.  Students were engaged and listened intently – until they were distracted by our new mascots, tentatively called the CHSS Blue-Green People.  In the picture to the right, Principals Ms. Jones and Ms. Wells discover that our new mascots are actually quite friendly.
